Our Eight Year Old Shares The Gospel

I have been wanting to incorporate memory work for our children during homeschool.

This week eight-year-old Dandy Lion and 15-year-old Darling Rose have been working on and successfully memorizing their Bible verses.

One of the reason I picked these verses is that they are the cornerstone for our Christian faith. I explained all this to our two children when I had them memorize them.

Then in church today it was time for sharing time during the church service and Dandy Lion said he wanted to get up and say his verses.

And this is what he said.

"I'm going to say John 3:16-21. These verses are about the after life. They're about what happens to you if you believe on Jesus and what happens to you if you don't believe in Jesus."

And so he begins...

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth 0n him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believeth on the name of the only begotten Son of God.

And this is the condemnation (I think I said that right), that light is come into the world and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."

Darling Rose also can say these verses but in a different version. After only the first week of memory work, I can already see how God can use what is put into our heart for the benefit of ministering to other people.

2 Darling thoughts:

  1. I love that you are incorporating Bible verses in their school work. That is a tough verse to memorize and I'm not even sure I say condemnation right!

  2. There is nothing more important than the love letter from the creator called the Bible. If you don't learn that one you might as well forget everything else. You need to know you are loved by your creator and your parents. Sunshine Mama is all about Love and tough love...She's awesome. Daddy Rainmaker
